Camping at Zion
A couple of months ago I decided to make reservations for our last camping trip of the year. I knew it had to be Zion National Park since my parents had just moved to St. George and my step-mom is in Cedar City (both very close to the park). We went this last weekend, spending three nights under the stars. It is an incredible place to visit. The red cliffs are amazing and I am in awe of the climbers we saw out there, the ones who actually spend the night just hanging there. No, thank you. I am a big wimp when it comes to heights.
After being in Yosemite last spring, I realized that I am really not a big landscape shooter. I love looking at photographs of grand vistas with star trails and mountain reflections in big lakes, but I don’t think I see that way. I decided, rather than shooting things I’m not very good at, I would look at things the way I do at home… seeing the smaller things… hopefully finding details that people don’t usually notice when they are at such an expansive place.
Some national parks have long waiting lists for camping reservations. When you have to wait a year to sleep next to a tree, something is wrong.

Gorgeous photos! (And I’m in your “see the little things” boat.
)
Absolutely stunning! Especially love the little curled purple petals. I’ve never been up there but it’s definitely on the list.
that last photo is phenomenal… it really speaks to me…..
